Metal in shape
“Efficient component optimisation by means of flame straightening” – that was the theme of two technical events organised by Messer Cutting Systems (MCS) Oxyfuel Technology in cooperation with the German Welding Society (DVS).
Over 70 practitioners from every area of metal processing came to Jena and Chemnitz and followed the presentations and practical demonstrations with interest. The focus was on the training of flame straightening specialists, which is also offered at the DVS training centre of the MCS Academy. In the practical part, the practitioners had the opportunity to learn about the different working techniques and the right gas supply, as well as material- specific, performance-optimised torch technology.
What flame straightening involves
A particular area of the workpiece is heated. Thermal expansion and restraint of this expansion leads to compression. Subsequent cooling produces shrinking forces in the compressed zone which lead to the desired change of shape. Flame straightening is a quick and material- conserving process for all weldable metal materials.
